University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham is ranked among the world’s top 100 institutions. Established in 1900, we are the original ‘redbrick’ University and part of the prestigious Russell Group. Our thriving student population enjoys a wide range of courses and an exceptional campus and facilities. The 10 Nobel Laureates we count among our staff and alumni have contributed to some of science’s greatest discoveries.

As the UK’s first civic university, we work in partnership with the city’s commerce and industry and deliver benefits for citizens that extend well beyond higher education. We are also the only university to have opened a secondary school dedicated to raising aspiration and achievement.

Facilities

We are investing millions in a transformational campus development so we can continue to provide the very best in education and research facilities. The new state-of-the-art School of Engineering building creates study, seminar and design spaces. It is also home to the Centre of Excellence for Digital Systems. The innovative Collaborative Teaching Laboratory introduces a different approach to teaching STEM subjects, promoting collaboration across disciplines so graduates are ready to work at the forefront of their field. The main building houses three large labs with cutting edge, industry relevant experimental equipment plus computational and analysis provision that’s of industrial standard.
