The students were introduced to a scaled-down version of a phone factory, where they explored the principles of Industry 4.0. This cutting-edge approach highlights the importance of connectivity and efficiency in modern manufacturing. By providing students with insights into real-world applications, we aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

One of the key highlights of the day was the hands-on experience with our test rigs. Students had the opportunity to collaborate in teams to assemble a phone, a task that not only reinforced their technical skills but also fostered teamwork—an essential element of the engineering profession.

Their enthusiasm was palpable as they engaged with our advanced technologies, including precision testing equipment and 6-axis arm robots. These innovations sparked lively discussions about the future of automation and industrial robotics, showcasing the potential career paths available to the next generation of engineers.

In addition to these experiences, students explored augmented reality applications that allowed them to analyse individual components within each system. This interactive approach made the learning process more immersive and provided valuable insights into how technology enhances engineering analysis.

The challenge of creating an OR gate using ladder logic was another significant component of the day. One student remarked, “To top it all off, we were granted the opportunity to create an OR gate using ladder logic, which was quite challenging as I have much to learn about PLCs, but I eventually got things to work.” This task demonstrated the importance of perseverance and problem-solving in engineering.
