Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology (GBSIoT) is proud to announce that it has joined the Get the Nation Learning campaign, a national movement founded by the Learning and Work Institute (L&W).

The campaign brings together organisations from across the UK who believe in the power of lifelong learning and want to make it part of everyone’s future. Its aim is to build a society where learning is accessible to all and where people can continue to grow and develop throughout their lives.
GBSIoT joins almost 100 organisations that have already signed up, including Channel 4, the National Housing Federation and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
A Shared Commitment to Lifelong Learning
By signing the Get the Nation Learning Charter, GBSIoT has pledged to:
-
Recognise the benefits of lifelong learning for individuals, communities and the economy
-
Commit to building a future where everyone can learn throughout life
-
Lead by example and help get the nation learning
This announcement comes during Get the Nation Learning Week, the highlight of the campaign calendar. Across the country, organisations are showcasing their impact on lifelong learning, taking part in events and celebrating the latest findings from the Adult Participation in Learning Survey.
“It’s Time to Turn the Tide”
Stephen Evans, Chief Executive of the Learning and Work Institute (L&W), said:
“When adults learn, our society and economy thrive. Growth, productivity, good work, resilient communities, fuller and richer lives – these are just some of the benefits lifelong learning can bring.
Despite this, public investment in adult learning has declined dramatically in the last decade. The same is true for employer investment in workplace training, with large inequalities in who accesses learning opportunities.
As changes in technology leave us all needing new skills and know-how for life inside and outside of work, levels of learning cannot continue to languish. It’s time to turn the tide. It’s time to get the nation learning.
We’re delighted that GBSIoT has joined the movement.”
Empowering Lifelong Learning in the West Midlands
Darran Marks, Operations Director at GBSIoT, added:
“Learning is the fuel in the engine of progress. It’s at the very heart, and not always at the very start.
At GBSIoT, we believe that when people are empowered to learn, they unlock potential. That potential is key to unlocking our region’s future.
This campaign helps to break down barriers and get individuals and communities learning. Get the Nation Learning Week is a powerful reminder that education is everyone’s business.”
